BLACKBELT GRADINGS

HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Last Class:

The last class is Thursday 18th December - all instructors and blackbelts need to attend the Oaklands class to be trained and assessed on the new syllabus - training as usual for all other students in this class!

Events:

Please check the dates and if there are any discrepancies please let me know!! - It is really important to avoid problems.

Our fight coaches are sorting out tournaments for the year and the details of these will be available asap. We are also putting together a squad of fighters for these events.

Don't forget about fitness and fight training on Wednesday nights once a month at Bushley. All squad members will need to attend these training sessions.

Attendance:

Whilst all of the classes are generally well attended, there are still some people who's attendance is erratic. It is very hard to teach all that needs to be taught for gradings when people miss training on a regular basis.

Unless you are shift workers, get yourselves to training - if Kerry can manage it with torn cartilage and a fractured kneecap, then so can you.

For any student who can attend for 12 weeks without having a week off, you will receive a voucher for a free 2 hour course.

New students:

All students are welcome to attend any courses and events. You will not be out of place or left behind - new students are very important to the association.

Changes:

This year we are celebrating our 10th year as White Lotus Martial Arts and we will be revising our syllabus and the organisation itself.

There will be a syllabus review starting in January and hopefully new syllabus books will be ready soon after that.

Although the syllabus is already very full, we will be adding in a small amount of groundwork, but we will be removing the differences in self-defences for lower and higher grades.

The association has grown over the last 9 years and I have managed most of the administration but I now feel that I cannot do all that is needed to a high enough standard, so there have been some changes to the structure of the association. Kerry McCluskey, the new Chief Instructor and Rob Harrison, the new Assistant Chief Instructor, will be dealing with the following:
-dan gradings
-instructor issues
-instructor meetings
-syllabus review
-oversee grading standards
-day to day team management issues

I hope that this will give me the time and energy to concentrate on teaching the students in my own classes.

Blackbelt Gradings:

Congratulations to all those who passed their dan gradings in November - in particular our new blackbelts - Ryan Taylor, Emma Thomas and Matthew Davis.

For those of you taking dan gradings in April - start training like your life depended on it now.

Competitions:

If you find yourself with nothing to do over Christmas - we will be running a competition where the winner will be decided at the instructor meeting on 3rd January.

The prize is free White Lotus weekend courses for 2009. All you have to do is design two certificates - one for kickboxing gradings and one for mixed martial arts gradings.
